Abstract:In this scientific article, the author presents the problem related to the varied meaning of the contemporary economic essence of the entrepreneurial risk. In order to clarify the different scientific opinions, a retrospective study of the significance of risk is presented in some of the earliest entrepreneurial theories and various modern definitions of the comprehensive category of risk and the more specialized category of entrepreneurial risk are analyzed. The author makes a distinction between the definitions according to the different understanding that is embedded in the notion of risk. The main economic entities of entrepreneurial risk are summarized by means of theoretical study and an author definition of the studied category is synthesized.
