Abstract: Digital transformation is establishing itself as a strategic process of key importance for the modernization and sustainable development of the construction sector in Bulgaria. The application of technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), the use of drones, sensor systems, automation, artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, virtual and augmented reality, etc. contributes to higher efficiency, better project planning and management, optimizing the energy consumption of buildings, reducing carbon emissions, increasing workplace safety. The aim of the authors of this article is to analyze both the main advantages that digitalization brings to the construction sector and some challenges, including the limited digital competence of those employed in the sector, the lack of standards, the need for a regulatory framework and the low level of technological investment. Through an analysis of the current state and trends in Bulgaria, the article outlines some of the opportunities for a faster and more sustainable transition to digital management of construction processes in accordance with European and global policies for digitalization and sustainable development. Based on an analysis of good practices, policies and technological trends, recommendations are offered to accelerate the transition to digital and sustainable construction in Bulgaria.
