Abstract: Building a new and/or renovating a professional sports stadium involves huge costs, which brings financing to the forefront. As funds from public sources might be reallocated to networks and facilities of social and technical infrastructure, it is essential to determine whether building and/or renovating a stadium has a positive economic impact on the area in which it is located. The paper presents the views of several economists on the economic impact of building professional sports stadiums, and one of the models reflecting the relationship between building stadiums and the areas' economic development has been modified on that basis.
Key words: building, renovating, professional sport stadiums, economic impact
